I recently sat down with my friend James Lawrence, The iron cowboy, and discussed the crazy things our bodies can come back from. The human body is an incredible, resilient entity. As someone nearing 40, I’ve realized this more profoundly than ever. Recently I got a blood test. My hopes weren’t high as for a number of years I pushed my body to its limits and wasn’t kind to it. However, after all of that, my latest blood work came back phenomenal. More importantly, I felt phenomenal. This information led me to make a promise to my body: no more putting it through unnecessary hell. It’s really never too late to change your habits and be good to your body.

Overcoming the “It’s Too Late” Mindset

I often hear people say, “I’m too overweight,” or “It’s too late for me to change.” But here’s the truth: your body can and will respond to positive changes, no matter your age or current condition. The key lies in consistency and patience. As Yogi Berra said, “It ain’t over till it’s over”. With the right approach applied over time, it is never too late to achieve improvements.

Your Body’s Ability to Adapt and Transform

Our bodies have a remarkable capacity to adapt and transform, often in ways we can’t even imagine. The journey isn’t easy, nor is it quick, but it is possible. The first step is to stop telling yourself that it’s too late. Here are some steps to get yourself out of the “It’s too late for me” mindset.

Steps to Reinvent Yourself Physically

  1. Acknowledge Where You Are: Be honest with yourself about your current physical state and understand that this is just your starting point, not your forever state.
  2. Set Realistic Goals: Establish achievable goals that motivate you. Whether it’s losing weight, gaining muscle, or simply feeling healthier, your goals should inspire you to keep moving forward.
  3. Develop a Consistent Routine: Consistency is the key to any change you want to make in your life. Find a workout routine and diet plan that you can stick to for a long period of time.
  4. Be Patient and Kind to Yourself: Transformation doesn’t happen overnight. Be patient with your body and kind to yourself as you embark on this journey.
  5. Seek Support and Guidance: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Whether it’s a personal trainer, a nutritionist, or a support group, having the right support can make all the difference.

Embrace the Journey

As you embark on this journey of transformation, remember to enjoy the process. You’re actively changing your habits and your life by sticking to good habits and routines. Your body is capable of incredible things when given the chance and the right care. Whether you’re 100 pounds overweight or in your 60’s, it’s NEVER too late to make a change. Our bodies are amazingly malleable and if effort is present, a result will soon follow. So, if you’re sitting there thinking it’s too late for you, I’m here to tell you: it’s not. You can change, and you can thrive.
