Today’s episode was with my good friend, Chad Neilson, also know as Plant Based Chad! I wanted to get Chad on to talk about being a competitive athlete while being plant based. Chad also is NOT a coach, so he has no monetization to gain from this. I am clearly not a plant based guy, and I did not feel judged for being a meat eater. Just like I didn’t judge Chad for being plant based. It was a very respectful and  intellectual conversation that I know you all will get a ton of value from!

Topics we covered in the podcast:

  • Why he calls myself plant based instead of vegan
  • Favorite plant based protein and restaurants
  • Ditching any dogma about being plant based
  • His “agenda” and bias and cognitive dissonance
  • His journey of Plant Based eating
  • A few things from the movie Game Changers which really stood out to him
  • And lastly, He Answered the age old questions “What do you actually eat?” and “How do you get enough protein?”

Top 12 Vegan Meals in the Salt Lake Valley

100% Plant Based Restaurants

  • Buds – sandwich shop downtown (100% Plant Based Restaurant). Get the buffalo chicken or pizza steak. Or better yet, both. Don’t let anyone talk you into Barbacoa.
  • Boltcutter – mexican restaurant downtown. The nachos are everyone’s favorite, I am also a huge fan of the sin carne asada burrito and the quesadillas.
  • Vegan Bowl – west side. Haven’t been there but 100% positive review from everyone I have ever talked to.
  • Zest Kitchen and Bar – 100% plant based and gluten free. Not my favorite, but if you want something almost pretentiously healthy it is very popular.

Vegan Meals at Omni Restaurants

  • The Pie – the Vegan Chicken Bacon Ranch is to die for.
  • Jinya Ramen – Creamy Vegan Ramen is sooooo good.
  • Dog Haus – The Beyond Brat there is phenomenal, they also have impossible sliders.
  • Mi Ranchito – around 3300 south and state – Has an entire vegan buffet every Friday night, as well as a smaller vegan menu throughout the week.
  • Chabaar – Thai restaurant in Midvale – Almost any curry there can be made vegan.

Vegan Fast Food

  • Burger King – Impossible Whopper. I have an embarrassing amount of these.
  • Del Taco – Beyond Beef Tacos/Burritos. They are alright, I can’t wait until Taco Time rolls theirs out though.
  • Apollo Burger – Impossible Burger.
